Spaced-out Japanese Couples

Consideration for others’ personal space is given high priority in Japan, but I’d not seen such a perfect example until wandering along the Yokohama waterfront.

This is a favourite spot for couples to sit and look out romantically across Tokyo Bay.

Almost as if markings had been painted onto the ground designating exact sitting spots, the equal intervals between couples appeared precisely measured, beautifully balanced.

As one couple left another would replace them in exactly the same spot. Both hilarious and thought-provoking, it provides a lovely insight into the culture.
