Not Hot, but Hot

Not everything that comes out of a vending machine in this country is of high quality.

On the positive side these machines dispense a variety of freshly cooked hot food. Among the options are Onigiri (triangular rice balls with various fillings), Curry Rice, Takoyaki (octopus balls), Fried Rice and even Yakisoba (soba noodles cooked with vegetables and sauce). Hot Dogs and Fried Chicken with Chips satisfy a more western palate.

On the negative side? Well, while freshly cooked and edible, it ain’t memorable.

Fortunately such machines are rare. There simply isn’t a need for them, as almost anywhere one travels in Japan and at almost any time of day or night one can find fresh, delicious, healthy and cheap food.
