Happy Happy Happy!

It’s the “Happy Toys Project”!

I arrived at the station to find Christmas decorations installed. But these aren’t the everyday cliches of Christmas that one usually finds in Western christian countries. No, in the name of Japanese cuteness, these Christmas trees are in fact enormous piles of (a double-take just to make sure) little cute knitted and patchwork elephants.

Being cute, they’re an incredible girl-magnet, and as each trainload of commuters passed, many would stop to squeal “Kawaii!” and take photos.

Judging by previous years’ characters, 2009 definitely hit the peak of cuteness. Every elephant was different.
